Being diagnosed diabetes comes with medical expenditures. Learn about a plan that makes it affordable to fit your needs.

Being diagnosed with diabetes can pose a serious financial burden on many individuals and families. The American Diabetes Association released a study from 2018 stating that “People with diagnosed diabetes incur average medical expenditures of $16,752 per year, of which about $9,601 is attributed to diabetes. On average, people with diagnosed diabetes have medical expenditures approximately 2.3 times higher than what expenditures would be in the absence of diabetes.”

With the cost of insulin remaining quite high; “Leading manufacturers have increased prices by more than 600% over the last 20 years.” It can seem overwhelming to try and find the right health insurance plan to fit your needs.

SelectHealth has rolled out a new plan this year on the Health Insurance Marketplace called the “Silver 6500 Diabetes Support Plan.” This is the first year that we’ve seen a plan offered in Utah that is primarily focused on helping those with diabetes, however, an individual does NOT need to have diabetes in order to enroll in this plan.

How this plan can help:

  • Lower copays for office visits
  • Lower copays for specialists
  • Lower copays for generic drugs
  • $0 copays for many basic diabetic needs for example:

All of these perscriptions and more come at a $0 copay on this plan.

In addition to the $0 copays above, some services are also able to bypass the plans deductible:

This plan is currently only offered by SelectHealth and is only available in the Silver category of plans. If you want to know more about this plan or if it’s right for you, talk to a Health Insurance Specialist and we can help you make that determination.
